💡 BYD's largest electric SUV arrives at dealerships across China with 590-mile range, 1000V architecture, and pre-sale prices starting around $34,500.

BYD Unveils Its Biggest Electric SUV Yet

BYD has begun rolling out its new flagship electric SUV, the Grand Tang EV, to showrooms across more than 60 cities in China. Pre-sale pricing starts at approximately $34,500 (250,000 RMB), positioning the vehicle as BYD's most ambitious SUV to date.

Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD's Dynasty Network Sales Division, confirmed the display vehicles have arrived at dealerships in major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu. The Grand Tang EV is expected to officially launch in the first half of 2025, with prices ranging from roughly $34,500 to $44,200.

Specs That Challenge Tesla and Legacy Automakers

The Grand Tang EV is BYD's first D-segment flagship SUV under its Dynasty brand lineup, and the numbers are impressive:

  • Range: Up to 950 km (590 miles) on a single charge using BYD's 2nd-generation Blade Battery
  • Architecture: Full-domain 1000V high-voltage platform for ultra-fast charging
  • Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds (dual-motor AWD variant)
  • Dimensions: 5,263 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, 1,790 mm tall, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase
  • Seating: 7-seat layout in a 2+2+3 configuration

Buyers can choose between a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. The 590-mile claimed range would place the Grand Tang EV among the longest-range production EVs globally, surpassing the Tesla Model X's EPA-rated range by a significant margin.

Interior Loaded With Screens and Comfort Tech

Inside, BYD has packed the Grand Tang EV with a triple-screen setup: a floating center console display, a dedicated passenger entertainment screen, and a 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted screen for second-row passengers. The front row features dual zero-gravity seats, signaling BYD's push into the premium comfort segment.

The 7-seat configuration and massive wheelbase suggest BYD is targeting families and executives who want space without sacrificing performance — a market segment currently dominated by vehicles like the Mercedes EQS SUV and BMW iX in the West.

Why This Matters for the Global EV Market

BYD continues to expand its product lineup aggressively while maintaining competitive pricing. A full-size electric SUV with nearly 600 miles of range, 1000V fast-charging capability, and sub-4-second acceleration — all starting under $35,000 — underscores the growing price-performance gap between Chinese and Western EVs.

While the Grand Tang EV is currently slated for the Chinese market, BYD has been rapidly expanding into Europe, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. If this model reaches international markets, it could put serious pressure on premium EV SUVs from Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz that often cost twice as much for comparable specifications.

The official launch and final pricing are expected before mid-2025.
